I thought it was an ingrown hair, but it was firm and painful to touch or squeeze. I hated it, but I stopped wearing my jock (which I wear daily), and the irritation and pain are gone after a week, but there's still a little hard lump. Thanks.

I get those at times, and it makes a firm, painful bump like that, and it can take a while to go away. It could also be a boil, though that would develop a white head on it after a few days. The other possibility is a sebaceous or epidermal cyst.
