I seems no football players wear jockstraps anymore and you never could tell in basketball. Once in a while you can tell a baseball player is wearing a cup...mostly pitchers and catchers (no pun intended). As I noted on other treads the TV camera men (or women) pan up above the guys crotches in most TV broadcast so as not to show a guys bulge. Yet its okay for TV commercials to show and talk about women shaving their pubic hair.
