How did McDavid jocks outlive BIKE and other old school, legacy jocks? How do you rate McDavid jocks compared to BIKE and all others you have worn?

I am not sure what happened to Bike but back in 2012 I went to Sports Authority to get some new Bike jockstraps and all they had was McDavid. I bought them since I already had some. The pouch sucked. It offered no support after 5 minutes and the edge of the pouch tore away after one or two washing and you nut hung out (Worse than jockstrap failure). I think what killed Bike is they went to the 2" waistband. I realize they were trying to compete however it did not offer the same support at a 3" waistband. The best jock they made in a long time was the last 3" Bike in Black and Grey before they closed shop. The current McDavids are OK but at first the pouch is like sandpaper. I also do not like the 2.5" waistband since it reminds me of the youth supporters I wore in Jr. High. I want a man's jock with a 3" waistband.

My new white McDavid jock is slowly becoming my favorite. It's been washed several times, and the waistband is becoming less stiff, and the entire jock is becoming softer and softer.

I do own a few McDavid jockstraps but do not wear them that often. They are OK but will never top the good old Bike 10. I think McDavid outlasted Bike because the materials for the Bike jockstraps got to be more expensive and harder to get. It is my opinion that the McDavid jocks are of a lower quality in materials and workmanship.

Another reason Bike stopped producing jockstraps is because it seems like the only guys wearing jockstraps in sports today are guys that need a cup jock like catchers in baseball or in boxing. Schools no longer require guys to wear jockstraps for gym class. I do think that was the biggest part of the jockstrap market. This all started happening in the 80' and most older men do not wear them to the gym any more. I go to the local YMCA and maybe 5% of the older men....men over 50 years old...still wear a jockstrap to work out.

It also seems that the jockstraps that are made by other manufacturers are more for fashion and, for me, they do not have that good old jockstrap feel and smell. They are not made of elastic materials in the jock pouches and do not support you like the older jockstraps do. Those companies seem to rely on the gay community to keep them in business.

I think part of the reason McDavid came into popularity is I went into Sports Mart/Sports Authority in 2012 to get more Bike jockstraps. They had a wall of jocks but they were McDavid instead of Bike and 3" jockstraps not 2".

McDavid does make a decent jock but if they had the pouch of an old BIKE then they would rule. The major retailer that carried jockstraps went under and now maybe you can find an off brand unless you go on line.

I am not 50 yet and still wear a jock. I just sweat and the briefs/compression shorts or anything tight just hold too much sweat. I would rather have someone look at me odd in a locker room for wearing a jockstrap instead of having my junk mashed. Maybe I should buy stock in Tinactin.
