Subject: Gyms reopening after quarantine
Do any of you guys live in areas where the gyms are now allowed open after Covid quarantine? If so, what are the lockerooms, showers, weight room situations like? Any ideas of how things will be changed after this? Personally, I have no problems going back as soon as they are open |

Massachusetts just reopened gyms on 7/6 on a 40% occupancy basis. Wet areas are closed-no pool, sauna, steam or showers. Equipment is marked off and taped lines on the floor are everywhere to keep everyone 6 feet apart. The manager said that he thinks that this won't last too long. |

Several of my gyms have opened but I am not ready to go back. As much as I miss it I am doing what I can to fight off my COVID-19 weight gain at home. Since I never experience the Freshman 15 in collage I guess this is now my time to get the weight gain. We were al jocks in collage and we all wore jockstraps. It was normal to see jockstraps either on a guy in the halls even though it was a co-ed floor or just laying around in their dorm room. |

LA Fitness in Illinois are open. Pools open...but showers are closed!?! I understand not having the sauna or hot tub open. But to not allow people to wash off the sweat after a tough workout seems counter productive to me. There is a shower by the pool that's open to rinse off before, but you can't use soap, and it's public so you can't be naked. Am I the only one that thinks this doesn't make sense from a sanitation standpoint?! |

I'm not a doctor, but as long as you keep with the social distancing, and if your not going home first, then taking a shower in the gym makes sense. They say to wash your hands....so this way you wash everything! Each gym is designed differently, so maybe its not possible for everyone. I agree with ChiJock. |

I go to the YMCA in my area. I called to see if they were opening up and they said yes. They told me I have to bring my own sweat towel. The locker rooms, saunas, steam rooms and shower rooms are all closed. You have to show up dressed to exercise and leave that way. You have to sign a waiver indicating you are aware of the dangers of Covid-19 exposure and you have to wear a mask into the building and to walk around once in the building. You can take the mask off while doing your exercising but put it back on to change rooms. Certain exercising machines like treadmills, elliptical's and wight lifting machines will be marked "out of order" so they can keep people 6 feet apart. I also went to my doctor this week and he noted I gained some wight. I told him I was going to start back to the gym and he said he would NOT recommend that just yet. He told me to try and get out and do some brisk walking and watch what I am eating. |
